fall into character

Hello everyone,

Could you, please, tell me what exactly the phrase "fall into character" means (talking about acting)? I'm pretty sure I understand it, but I need a definition to make sure.

Thanks a lot.

It means that the actor truly assumes the personality of the character he/she is playing. For example, off stage the actor may be his normal self but as he goes on stage he 'falls into character' and changes.

A happy actor off stage may act the part of a miserable person, always complaining. (He has fallen into character).
