Situation:
To a fasten door, a 10-cm bar (latch) is placed on two oval shaped rings and another hole with a depth of 5 cm in the wall. If the latch is placed on rings only, the latch is not placed. If the latch is put into hole besides rings, then fasteing takes place. Now I want to describe the latch put into hole only upto 0.5cm though it is 5.00 cm deep. The latch is very lighghtly and marginally placed, which is easy to unlatch.

Query:

How to describe a latch(bar) not fully or marginally placed.

You could also just say that it is not fully latched!
