Hello,

I have a binder for January where I need to file documents.
I made a note to my colleague stating that she needed to file it for or in January.

What would you say?

Thank you.

It depends upon the context, which you have not provided.

If you say "for January," it implies that you have a tickle file for items to be revisited in January.

If you say "in January," it implies that you have a file named "January," for items not necessarily needing to be revisited.
