final eve

spanish - argentinian

What is the meaning of "final eve" in the title of this poem?

"living as a lesbian on 49’s final eve" (Cheryl Clarke)

What is the difference between saying 49's final eve, and 49's eve?
I reckon they're shifting to he 50's and this this the year of 49's final eve...

Thank you!

Your understanding is the same as mine.
It is a poem. How any author expresses his/her thoughts is his or her choice.
Whether here she is talking about the eve before her 50th birthday or not is not clear.
It could be that everyday of her 49th year she is considering as an eve and this is now the last one for tomorrow she is 50.
