Financial controller = accountant ?

Hi everybody,
Do the Americans say "financial controller" for accountant?
In one book, it is written as below:
"He was employed as a financial controller in a shop."
Please comment.

    No. See, however, comptroller, which tends to be a title, chosen by the employer, rather than a profession, .

    "Financial comptroller" (or "controller") would be redundant.

    Er.Hanifa, a Financial Controller's job is far more complex than just keeping the books in a shop.
    (Actually, I wonder what kind of shop needs a financial controller?)
