Watching a movie about football. I can't understand the underlined expression.

Chicago is leading 14-7.
North Dallas is on the Chicago 25. First and 10.

    This section of the wikipedia article on American football explains the significance of "downs". You should read the whole article if you wish to really understand the significance of such terms. That would be beyond the scope of this forum:D
