    - What do you call the thing which we stick it into the fishing hook to fish? is it called "fishing bait"?

    Thanks a lot! :)

I often hear "(fishing) lure". Although "(fishing) bait" is just fine.

It'd be "bait" if it was once alive; it's a lure if it's man-made. That's my layperson's perception of the distinction, anyway.

    I agree with Biblio.

Bait, or fish bait, if it is a piece of meat skewered onto a plain hook.

A lure (or various other more specific terms) for something that is man made.

Shows how much I know about fishing...

After reading bibliolept's and nzfauna's responses, I agree that "bait" is/was alive whereas "lure" is man-made.
