flash back in the context of explosive vapour

Context: 'Vapour [of a new type of petrol] may travel considerable distance to source of ignition and flash back.'

I have consulted a few dictionaries about the phrase but none of the definitions listed seems to fit here. What does ‘flash back’ mean exactly in this context? Thanks.
