Hello! Could anyone tell me what does the word 'flitch' refer to here? Context:

In the last years of the Seventeenth Century there was to be found among the fops and fools of the London coffeehouses one rangy, gangling flitch called Ebenezer Cooke...

    Welcome to the Romanian forum.

I think the preceding words might be a hint: rangy (slender, with long arms), gangling (tall and lanky). Seems likely then that the second definition of flitch applies:
    a long, thin wooden board.

Mai pe românește, omul avea forma (și grația?) unei scânduri (sau chiar șipci).
