Bonjour, je dois rendre une copie sur la nature des relations Franco-allemande en Europe. Je souhaite terminer cet essay par cette phrase " leur entente semble moins bien fonctionner de nos jours"

" their relationship appears to be less working" can i use the word " working" is this case, i think the word "operating" does not work


any ideas? help please

    Please see above. You could also say "functioning less well", which would be more formal than "working less well." "Operating" usually would refer to something like the day-to-day mechanics of carrying on the relationship, in my experience. Since that does not appear to be what you intend to say, I agree it would not work here.

    To me, this sounds a bit awkward for a final sentence. At a minimum, I'd add something at the end :

    ... these days their relationship seems to be working less well than before.

    Alternatively, I'd rephrase it to be :

    ... these days their relationship appears not to be working so well.

    Or for a little more flair :

    ... their relationship is currently going through a rocky phase.
