Hi! I need the help of a sports fan:
Regarding the States, what is exactly football 5-A? Is it a category? If so, what age group does it belong to?

    Thanks to all!
Yes, it is a category. However, it is not an age category. It has to do with the population of the high school (how many students are enrolled in the school). Hope that helped you.

    What's that, a high-school with only five A-students? :D  :p ;)

High schools parts of the US are classified by the number of students in each school. This helps "even the field" as it were when it comes to sports competitions, in particular, especially during end-of-season tournaments.

In my state, we have 6-A (1,200 students and above), 5-A (between 675 and 1,199 students) all the way down to 1-A and even "B" level schools (fewer than 300), which are usually co-op schools in small rural areas with very scattered populations.

The larger "A" schools are generally located in urban or suburban areas. The smaller schools are in small rural-area towns.

And no, ahem, these ratings have nothing to do with academics. :)
