Hi all! My friend wrote:

"For whatever reason, they never listen to their parents. "

Does it mean " For some unknown reason, they never listen to their parents"?

    Not exactly. The sense is "I'm not going to worry about the reason."

    If you say "unknown," there's no indication of not caring about the reason.
