I am in a beginning level of French at the moment. In order to improve my French, I read newspaper, Le Monde sometimes and come across the following question.

What is the tense or usage of below sentence:

L'infection a ete controlee de maniere efficace

The tense of a été contrôlée is the passé composé, although it's also in the passive voice which complicates things by introducing an extra auxiliary 'être'.

Le médecin a contrôlé l'infection would be the normal (active) passé composé.
