FR: I was not able to do X yesterday

Hi,
i always have a problem when it comes to the past tense other than passé composé and Passé Recent.

If i want to say

Am sorry, i was not able to do something (xxx) yesterday...how will i say it and which form of grammar will it be?

    • In your example, it sounds like you are referring to one discrete event: you had the possibility to do something, but you were unsuccessful, so you stopped trying. In these cases you need the passé composé, so you will say 'Je n'ai pas pu faire xxx hier'.
