FR: I won't be back in time for supper

Hello :)

Could someone please explain why there needs to be "de" in this sentence:
"Je ne serai pas de retour" and also the usage of "retour" as it is a noun?

Is it just an expression that uses retour this way?

Also, what are some other ways to say "I won't be back in time for _supper for example__" in French?

Thank you so much!

If you want to opt for the "I won't make it for..." option, I would say "I won't make it BACK for..." which still gives the sense of coming back to a place or from a place and not just going somewhere.
