FR: J'en veux un comme ça !

Could anybody explain why the 'en' in needed in this sentence? I think the sentence means "I want one like that!" but I can't work out why the 'en' is necessary.

Because implicitly in French, it's one of a certain kind.

Yes the "en" stands for "of them" so a possible translation that helps is "I want one of them"

So a really literal translation in English would be something like "I want one of those like that" ?
