FR: lest I died

Not sure as to what the exact rule is on this; when the subject is the same in the main clause and subordinate clause, do you use an infinitive?

i.e. "I did not eat the chocolate lest I died"
would translate as "je n'ai pas mangé du chocolat de peur de mourir"
rather than "je n'ai pas mangé du chocolat de peur que je meure"
Sorry for the odd sentence!
