    My sentence is: She was leaning on the banisters, listening to something.
    Ma tentative est: Elle s’appuyait sur la rampe, écoutant quelque-chose.
    Is this "écountant" ok here without "en" before it? I always get confused about this.
    Qu'est-ce que vous en pensez?

    Yes, the present participle (hence without en) is definitely the right choice in your sentence. :)
