I'm having trouble with this sentence.

So far I am between two options:

Sarah dit à son frère qu'il doive chacher dans le placard.

or

Merci.

    Hello,
    Neither is right I'm afraid.

    It would be :

"Sarah tells her brother that he must hide himself in the closet" literally retranslated.

"Sarah dit à son frère qu'il doit se cacher dans le placard"

I hope it makes sense to you.:)

    Or you could say:

"Sarah dit à son frère de se cacher dans le placard"

which is shorter and closer to the original.

    Hi,

    To hide
: se cacher (reflexive verb, as though se stood for himself : "to hide himself")
To tell someone to do something : dire à quelqu'un de faire quelque chose.

Note that you could also say Sarah dit à son frère qu'il doit se cacher dans le placard (no subjunctive) but that wouldn't be an order, just a statement : Sarah tells her brother that he has to hide in the closet (Sarah isn't necessarily the one who commands his brother to hide, unlike in She tells him to hide).
