hello! how would you say - 'you have been gone for a while?'

my attempt is as such;

cela fait longtemps que tu es parti

or could it be

tu es parti pendant un bon moment?

of would it even maybe use a construction with 'depuis'

Merci d'avance

    I'm not quite sure what you wish to express. :eek:

    partir : to leave
    être parti : to be away, to be gone (état), to have left (action).

    Tu es parti depuis longtemps (état) = You have been away for a while and you haven't come back
    Tu es parti il y a longtemps (action) = You left a long time ago and either you're still gone, or you came back.

    - Cela fait longtemps que tu es parti or Tu es parti il y a longtemps (you left quite a long time ago) : the person who left has or has not come back.

    - Tu
    étais parti or tu étais absent pendant un bon moment : the person who left has definitely come back

    I wouldn't use "Tu es parti pendant un bon moment", which would translate as "You have left for a while".:cross:
