    Hi,

This is the sentence I am having trouble with: "Dans un fracas d'orage, la créature fond sur le palais." I was wondering if "un fracas d'orage" refers to a literal thunderstorm or is it a metaphor of the roaring sound the creature made when landing on the palace. So is it something like “During a roaring thunderstorm, the creature swooped down on the palace.”?
    Thanks!

No, I don't think so. I would say it is a metaphor. Un fracas d'orage would be more like the sound of thunder.

It could be both, depending in the context. Is it from a fairy tale? Could you give us more information on the context?

Yes, it is more an adventure story. It's about a creature (la strige) hunting down a boy in the palace. The previous sentence was "La strige est à sa recherche! Dans un fracas d'orage, la créature fond sur le palais. Mais elle disparaît bientôt en sifflant de rage: elle n'a pas trouvé le garçon."

    Thanks again!

I'm pretty sure it is only a metaphor.
