French verb tense to use when describing a story

When you describe a story that you have read to another person in French, what verb tense should be used?

(For example, what tense should be used to tell the story of the 3 Little Pigs to your friend).

"L'histoire s'agit d'une vieille femme qui habite dans un petit village...."
