'Friend' or 'Friends' as a movie title

There's this Korean film, which "follows the lives of four childhood friends."
The English title is 'Friend,' which is a direct translation of the Korean title.

My question is, if the film were an English or American film, could the title ever be "Friend" (in the singular) when it "follows the lives of four childhood friends"?
Or should it be "Friends" (in the plural)?

I would use Friends, as the American television series has. I would only use Friend if we wanted to specifically note that one person has only one friend.
