    This is a metaphor of a family crisis

    We had to prevent the spark just reignited from bursting into a full flame.

    I struggle with the full flame part.

    Nous devions empêcher l'étincelle qui venait de s'allumer de s'enflammer est une version laide car deux infinitifs
    se succèdent et on ne rend pas full flame :eek:

    What if you change the first bit, instead of the second?
    empêcher l'étincelle qui venait de s'allumer de s'enflammer
    Qualifying it strikes me as unnecessary, because sparks don't sit around getting old. Changing l'étincelle to cette étincelle might give a greater sense of immediacy if you think it needs it...? Otherwise perhaps try finding a different way around that part.
