I am trying to describe a research subject in french. In English it is:
Functional analysis of the bacterium Bacillus subtilis

My problem is, I am not sure how to say 'bacterium' singular in french and also what gender it is (feminine?).

My attempt: Análisis funcional de la bactérie Bacillus subtilis

Is this right?
