hi!
I'd like to translate the expression "to gather your wits" but I can't find anything appropriate. The best I could figure out was "reprendre ses esprits".
any suggestion will be appreciated!
:)

peut-être : rassembler ses esprits qui n'est pas exactement la même chose que reprendre ses esprits

    Bonjour,

Pensez-vous que "to gather one's wits" est équivalent à "to gather one's wits together" ?
Je pense que oui, mais une confirmation (ou non ;) ) me serait bien utile !
    Merci

A mon sens, to gather one's wits est une phrase figée; to gather one's wits together sonne ironique (pour souligner qu'on est vraiment très très perturbé ou désordonné) ou un peu moins guindée comme phrase. De l'anglais parlé plutôt qu'écrit peut-être.

Full version of the expression, and the one I'm most familiar with, is to "gather your wits about you". The straight "gather your wits" would appear to be less common, though it depends on sentence structure and context. I can't remember ever having heard "gather your wits together".

Another well-known variant is "keep your wits about you" which means to "be alert" or "be ready".
