Hi,

I looked up the word "gathering" in some dictionary, ours and this one. And I gathered that the word is quite formal. It's used in some formal occasions like gathering to protest, gathering for a meeting, etc. I wonder if it could work as "party".

Will you come to tonight's gathering?

Is it natual to say to my female middle school classmate?

Thanks a lot

    Thanks a lot, E2e.

I wonder when "get-together" work as a noun, should it be put like this:

Will you come to tonight's get together?

    Thanks a lot

    Hi,

Since the degree of formality of this word is/was being discussed, I'd like to ask you if its usage is formal enough (and natural) when referring to an event such as a seminar or conference. For example, in The speaker/lecturer of this gathering was Professor X.

    Thanks for your help,

    Gonzalo
