I wonder if any english speaker could translate the word "gazebo" in english. Well, it might be the same, but what I'm really looking for is the word for a room in a restaurant which is surrounded by glasses, instead of brick walls, so that customers can have a panoramic view. I don't want the term, panoramic restaurant I would like to know the specific word for this room, which we call "gazebo" in Italy. Can someone help me? Thanks a lot!
 
    • We use the word gazebo in english also, but it is generally understood as a small roofed building affording shade and rest, and I think most people picture a stand-alone structure. I can't think of anything right now other than outdoor terrace room or glassed-in dining terrace, since you have prohibited :))) panorama. N.B - These don't suggest that the view is particular, just that there you can see outdoors. I'll keep at it, and others will surely join the discussion.
     
    I think, glassed-in dining terrace fits perfect! It's the 1st time I'm using this site I'm still confused on how to use this properly. Whoever gave me the answer...GRAZIE MILLE!

    Welcome (I should have said so before, sorry). You're using it correctly, alolli. The user who helped you was me, lsp, in this case. You can see by the picture and info just above the text.
     
    I have been here long enough to know I should also have mentioned that the thread titles need to be more specific. It's difficult to search for threads in which you can help, or learn from, if they are all entitled "translation" or "help" or use other very generic words. Thanks in advance for keeping that in mind.

    alolli, non so chi ti abbia detto che una veranda si chiami gazebo, ma sappi che ciò che hai descritto non è un gazebo, in italiano. Pensavo non lo fosse neanche in inglese, ma quanto ha detto lsp mi ha un po' confuso... probabilmente ha ragione lei. Speriamo che ci chiarisca le idee.

    Gazebo (in italiano):
    chiosco da giardino, costituito da un piccolo padiglione solitamente in muratura o ferro battuto, talvolta ricoperto di piante rampicanti.

    Attualmente se ne trovano molti in legno.

Si, addirittura sono al corrente che il termine "gazebo" non sia propriamente una veranda, però, spesso quelli che lavorano presso a questa struttura si riferiscono al luogo usando la parola "gazebo" ed anche lo plubblicizano in questo modo sui siti internet, agenzie, ecc. Lavoro in un albergo in Umbria dove il ristorante, infatti abbastanza carino, ha questa particolare struttura chiamata "gazebo". Ti ringrazio il comento e se mai da queste parte ti invito ha trovarci a Bettona. Arrivederci!

    Grazie, visitare l'Umbria è sempre un piacere, visto che è anche la mia regione preferita. Leggo dal tuo profile che sei italiana/o, però dal tuo italiano capisco che non lo sei ;) Perciò spero non ti dispiaccia se correggo alcuni tuoi errori.

    Il fatto che delle persone usino scorrettamente il termine, non ci autorizza a divulgarlo maggiormente ;)
    Io non esiterei a far presente l'errore e a cominciare ad usare il termine giusto :) Penso chiunque l'apprezzerebbe.
     
    Veranda (la stessa parola in inglese) può funzionare bene: a porch along the outside of a building (sometimes partly enclosed). Non mi è venuta in mente prima.
