    There's no single word. In my dictionary it says : the name given to the people who live in a country, region or city

    E.g. in English we would say:

    What do call people from (or who live in) Los Angeles

    Hence my original title about the adjective from Los Angeles. I'd forgotten about "gentilicio"

    I would say

    a girl from Los Angeles

    Not very elegant is it? Maybe in the States they have an adjective
     
    Vivo muy lejos de Los Angeles y la verdad es que no sé por cierto, pero según la entrada para Los Angeles en Wikipedia: "The people of Los Angeles are known as Angelenos."

    Además si buscas la website del periódico Los Angeles Times puedes encontrar muchos ejemplos del uso de ese gentilicio de Los Angeles.
    Imagino que si estás muy lejos de LA sería mejor les decir a ellos "Los Angelenos". Puedes encontrar ejemplos de eso Aquí

    Pero en inglés no es posible indicar en una palabra que el ''Los Angeleno'' es una mujer o joven.
     
    And how do you call people from USA???? I've heard "American" but an American person is not a person from the continent America????
     
    I lived in LA for a while and yes, "angeleno" (in English) was the common word, as "angelino" was for Spanish speakers.
    Just confirming in case anyone had doubts,

    As some of you seem determined to change topics in mid-thread, just use the Search feature. We have had many long threads on the naming conventions for residents of EEUU, with linguistic, nationalistic, cultural, and polemical viewpoints all well represented.

    But, let's say "American" is not that wrong. Sure, America is the continent, but it's also the name of their country: United States of America

    As Mexicans come from the United States of Mexico
    And actual Venezuelans come from former United States of Venezuela.

    I guess the same happens with -sorry for repeting the example- Mexico, because the capital is Mexico City, so I don't know if people from outside DF feel insulted when the hear the people from Mexico City regarded to as Mexicanos (is there another "gentilicio" for them, BTW?)
