    english
'exchanges in the city during its gentlemanly heyday'

I know heyday is 'age d'or' and gentlemanly can be 'noble' but in this context i think it refers to actual gentlemen and their exchanges on the stockmarket.
    Any ideas?

What period is this? Not an easy question.

It dosn't specify the era (I pictured the 20's, for no particular reason) but just 'exchanges in the City during it's gentlemanly heyday'
PS 'the City' being 'La City' in London
