"I only got a little way into telling Jake, up to the point where (the story), and then he rushed off."

Situation: The man is thinking about the day when he told his friend about his story. That day, during the conversation, his friend was interrupted by phone call and then he went off.


Is "only a little way into telling" mean "he tell the story a little bit" ?
