Hi there
What do you call a student who always sucks up to the teachers / professors in order to gain better marks
OR
an employee who get a promotion by complementing a higher manager or boss etc. in the polite and impolite way?
I was wondering if you someone could let me know if my understanding in this respect is correct or not:

- He used to polish the apple of the teacher to get better marks. (Polite)
- He used to lick the teacher's boot to get better marks. (Polite)
- He used to flatter the teacher to get better marks. (Polite)
- He used to suck up to the teacher to get better marks. (Impolite)

I would be thankful if an AE native could give me some more suggestions too if mine do not work based on my understanding.

None of them are polite. though the third (flatter) sounds politer than the others. The second one especially is very insulting.

The construction of the first two isn't really correct.

He tried to get the teacher to give him better marks, by apple-polishing.
He used to lick the teacher's boots to get better marks.
