Hello

Getting dirty was all part of the game to the kids.

Getting dirty was a part of the game to the kids.

What is the diffirent between these sentences?

All or a are for the game or part?
Thank you

"Getting dirty was all part of the game to the kids." = The kids expected to get dirty while playing the game, and they were fine with that.

"Getting dirty was a part of the game to the kids." = The kids expected to get dirty while playing the game, and intentionally attempted to get themselves dirty.

The difference I see is that in the first sentence, getting dirty is understood as a consequence or side-effect of the game that is tolerated, whereas in the second, getting dirty is understood as a more integral element of the game that is desirable.
