Hello everyone:

What is the difference in meaning between (a) and (b) ?

a. Give him my number so that he could call me if he needed help.

b. Give him my number so that he can call me if he needs help.

Source: myself

I think that (a), which is a second conditional, implies that it is very unlikely that this will ever happen. On the other hand, (b) a first conditional, makes the possibility of him needing my help more forceful.

Thanks
