Hi everybody! i have read a sentance "Each winter I give up aerobics." My question is why not "Each winter I give up doing aerobics". As far as I know the Gerund must be there. Many thanks

"I give up aerobics" is idiomatic in AE: it would not be considered incorrect in casual contexts, and it's meaning would be perfectly clear. Another example is "I want to give up alcohol/cigarettes."
