    Zerlo is a Ligurian word used to describe the fish known in Italian as Menola (Spicara smaris).

    Boghe is the plural form of Boga, a Ligurian dialect word for the fish whose Linnaean name is (believe it or not) Boops boops (Linnaeus, 1758). This fish is also known as Boba.

    Off topic, I know, but I wonder how difficult it might be for an Italian trying to learn english by reading these threads and conversing with us (which in turn helps us with our italian) to decipher our "chat shorthand"? Some, like thanx, are relatively easy, but if I were trying to learn italian as a beginner and the italians wrote like this, I think I would be thrown off a bit. Anyone else have any thoughts on the subject?
     
    Sorry, didn’t even think of that. Am new to this forum. Will try my best to use less short hand. I can understand as text messaging or SMS's where a bit of a struggle at the begining with all the abbreviations.

    Thank you ever so much for your help. Was Looking for translation for ages! Am in Genoa on a year long work placement and no one in my office knew how to explain what those fish were called!
