golden handshake VS pension

Hello there,

Is there any difference between the two, "golden handshake" and "pension"?

The difference I can think of is that golden handshake involves a large amount of money, but pension is not. Pension is given to someone at a regular basis, but golden handshake is given all at once. Am I right?

Thanks!

Pension is given to someone at a regular basis, but golden handshake is given all at once.
    That is the basic difference.
A "golden handshake" is often compensation, a bonus, a gesture of gratitude, or part of a contract not to sue the donor. A pension is seen as something given at the end of a working life and to which the employee (and employer) has contributed over the years.
