Hi

Context:

Houses located in golf course communities (especially houses that face the fairway) and residential property adjoining lakes, reservoirs, wildlife refuges, resorts, and other leisure sites record high values.

from the book dimensions of leisure for life

I am well aware what a golf course is, but cannot make heads or tails as to the meaning of community here.

Also, record here means to experience, or to be worth, right?

Thank you in advance

Those are the same things, faza62, just more expensive!

It is exactly what joanvillafane said - my cousin and her husband live in one in Nevada. Access to the community's course comes with residency. They are retired golf nuts and play nearly every day - driving the golf cart across from their house to the course and back. There are also communities where you can stay in a house near the course like a hotel and pay for temporary access. Otherwise, one has to be accepted as a member of a country club and pay dues to play on a course, or be a guest of a member, or play on a public course and compete for tee times.

so to make things clearer ...

Its a group of residential settlements owned/rented by members of a certain community, here the community of golfers. Right?

A neighborhood, village, town or a city can be referred to as a community. People who live near each other are part of a community - a village or a town. A golf-course community is also a place - a neighborhood or a small village that has a golf course. People may live there who don't play golf.
