Hello I would like to have a sentence that can show the correct use of this word For example in this case. The teacher is writing on a chalk board and makes a sound with the chalk. The teacher grated on the board.IS it correct? Thank you in advance

    No entiendo. The teacher "scratched" the board but "the cook grated the cheese"?

    It's really the chalk itself that grates against the blackboard:

    The sound of the chalk grating (el chirrido de la tiza) against the blackboard sent shivers down the spines of the students.
