greeting card

Many greeting cards that I receive have Dear Julie above the inside printed message of a greeting card. Is it okay not to put the addressee's name above the message and just sign the card (perhaps with a short written message before the signature)? Since I didn't write the printed message, it feels strange for me to write Dear so and so above the message.

I see what you mean, the "Dear <name>," before a printed greeting may seem strange, but most informal letters begin with "Dear <name>," which is a loose convention, this convention has been transposed to pre-printed greetings.

So, as ewie says, "It's OK."
