Groom/ Groomsman/ Bride

I have some problem with this sentence:
" Reading the story of the ____ having her dress torn off in the lift reminded me of my friend's wedding. "

I dont know which word is the right answer (groom/ groomsman/ bride) because I dont understand this sentence much, especially the "having her dress torn off in the lift"

I'm really looking forward to seeing your reply :D

    Have you looked up the definitions of these words in a dictionary, such as the WRF dictionary at the top of this page? Only one of those three people is likely to wear a dress or to be referred to as "her."
