grow/raise/rear and produce

Hi all. I'd like to know if my understanding of the relation between grow/raise/rear and produce is correct.

My understanding is that growing something or raising/rearing something is part of production. In other words, the moment you put seeds or young plants in the ground, or the moment you start raising/rearing a young animal or fish, the production begins.

Am I correct?

In AE, the word produce is most commonly used to refer to fruit and vegtable products and not animals and fish etc.

(From the WRF entry :agricultural products collectively, esp. vegetables and fruits.)

Perhaps if preceded by the word farm (farm produce), it might be expected to include livestock/fish etc)
