    Here in America they are traditionally called PUMPS or FLATS but Wikipedia states that they are known as COURT SHOES IN ENGLAND.

    Pay particular attention to this sentence:

    "Outside the fashion trade in the UK, the term "pumps" would normally imply flat or low heel dancing or ballerina pumps, or even rubber soled canvas plimsolls."

    P.S. Here's a wonderful photo of various types of flats. They are all duly labeled but the term, FLATS, is not always terribly clear!
