From Freud on the couch

The son of a wealthy Russian landowner, had
been left Pankejeff
by a gonorrhoea incapacitated and wholly
dependent on others infection.

Hi

How can I interpret the hilighted.

Does it mean that he had to stay at home?

Pankejeff in the context is his family name.

Many Thanks~!

It is difficult to believe that is the right transcription. Could you check it, please? And are you reading from the actual book or from a copy found on the Internet?

This is from an automatic translator or has been garbled by some other means. The word order is incorrect and Pankejeff should not appear in that position in the sentence.

I just copied the phrase from the book, which is published in UK. Maybe then the writer mistakenly missed some words around.... If then what do you think it would be?

I found the book on the Amazon site. The transcript is correct. It's clearly a typesetting error and I think Copyright's revision is correct.
