I was supposed to deliver a speech soon after the guests arrived, but I suddenly remembered that I'd left it at home because I had been/ was in a rush. (The person was in a rush when they were at home, not when they were supposed to deliver a speech)

Which one would be correct in this context? Thanks!

    ... but I suddenly remembered (PAST TENSE) that I'd left (PAST PERFECT - resets the time-line to before 'remembered') it at home because I was in a rush
