Please can anyone kindly tell me what is the appropriate word to describe the movement of your hands when you are striding ahead, like in this sentence:

"He strode ahead, hands swaying beside him" - Is it alright to use "sway" and "beside" this way?

Many thanks!

I would say hands swinging at his sides. Sway suggests instability. Beside him is OK but at his sides sounds a bit more idiomatic to me; though I fear that both are superfluous - where else would they be swinging?

Thank you very much, se16teddy, "swinging at his sides" sounds very natural and good - though, yes, where else would they be swinging ;)
