Has Taught

Could anybody please help me? Should 'has taught' be in the present perfect as it is? My gut tells me this could also be in the present --- teaches, but I'm not too sure about this. Your help would be highly appreciated.
Mr. Hayashi is very composed and patiently listens to others even in an environment where you feel a lot of pressure. This has been exhibited particularly when he has taught low-level students.

Teaches is the better choice. It implies that he taught and still teaches and is probably going to continue teaching low-level students. Has taught throws the thought into the past tense.
