English to French hatchling

Dictionary entry: hatchling

Anne Laure

"hatchling" can also be translated as "nouveau-né" in a more generic way in French, as it is not only used for baby birds in English. This can cause mistranslation if you are not careful enough (it happened to me, so thought I would share this comment here). In the Oxford dictionary: "a young animal that has recently emerged from its egg."
Wikipedia explains: In oviparous biology, a hatchling is a newly hatched fish, amphibian, reptile, or bird.

Thank you, Anne Laure, for your report :)

As a matter of fact, some new English senses will be added in the coming months, with their French translations. As a result, it should all be clearer and hopefully, this will avoid mistranslations! :)
