I don't quite get the meaning of this sentence "he paused three rows ahead and hauled the guy to his feet by the front of his shirt"

What's "haul the guy to his feet by" mean here? Is he literately hauling the guy by using his shirt? Hope someone can give me a little help here.

    Yes, that is what it means. :)

    He held onto the front of the other person's shirt and pulled him to his feet. The other person had been sitting down, but now he was standing up.
