Have I used the phrase "Coming as it does" correctly in this context?

A person, whose scholarship I greatly admire, writes to me approvingly of a piece I’ve written.

Could I tell him, “Coming as it does from you, I take it as a compliment”? Meaning, his approval is a matter of great importance to me.

    Yes, that’s fine. But it would be better with “as it does” enclosed in commas. It’s a non-essential addition to the statement. In fact, I wouldn’t add it at all.
